Located twenty minutes south of Nashville in Williamson County, Brentwood is an affluent community of around 37,000. The city has received accolades for its quality of life, including its award-winning schools, outdoor living, and great shopping and dining.

History

According to the city historian, Revolutionary War soldiers from North Carolina settled Brentwood in the late 1700s. The town thrived as an agricultural community until the Civil War. The plantations served as hospitals for both Confederate and Union soldiers during the war. Brentwood slowly recovered and began to prosper with the construction of the Interstate in the 1960s. Its proximity to Nashville and its strong economy has made Brentwood one of the most desirable places to live.

Shopping and Dining

Brentwood has several shopping centers. Brentwood Place Shopping Center includes T.J. Maxx, Stein Mart, and Kroger’s. Hills Shopping Center has R.E.I., Puffy Muffin, and Hot Pink. Cool Springs Pointe is home to Old Navy, DSW Shoes, and Best Buy. Marketplace of Maryland Farms includes Gabriel’s Garden, Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream, and Maryland Farms Wine & Spirits. Brentwood Town Center is home to Spruce, Amy’s Unique Gifts, and Wild Iris. Brentwood has a plethora of restaurants that attract people from the surrounding area, including Mère Bulles, Puffy Muffin, Mack and Kate’s, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Peter’s Sushi and Thai, and Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint.

Parks and Recreation

Brentwood’s largest park is Crockett Park, which has over 170 acres and includes more than twenty indoor and outdoor sports fields, a community playground, and Eddy Arnold Amphitheater. Concord Park includes Brentwood Library and paved trails. The Little Harpeth River flows through Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area, which has man-made lakes, an observation deck, and an amphitheater. Primm Park is home to an historic schoolhouse built in 1832 called Boiling Springs Academy, and the Fewkes Group Archaeological Site. Other parks with sports fields, courts, trails, and playgrounds include Granny White Park, Owl Creek Park, River Park, and Tower Park.

Money Magazine has named Brentwood as one of the Best Places to Retire for its quality of life, healthcare, and low crime rate. Brentwood has several idyllic neighborhoods close to great schools, parks, and recreational facilities. Brentwood’s real estate includes updated historic homes in established neighborhoods and traditional style homes in newer subdivisions. Annandale is an affluent subdivision located on Cloverland Drive and Old Smyrna Road. Belle River is another desirable neighborhood off Hillsboro Road and Murray Lane. Also off Murray Lane is Foxland Hall, which consists of a range of homes for sale in a variety of styles, including Cape Cod, Colonial, Rustic Contemporary, and Georgian. Other popular neighborhoods are Brentwood Chase, which is close to the Shoppes of Brentwood Hills, and Fountainhead, which is in Scales Elementary School subdivision.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Brentwood is served by Williamson County School District, which has nine high schools, eight middle schools, and 23 elementary schools. Williamson students have been National Merit Scholarship finalists, consistently earned ACT scores above the national average, and have the highest achievement rates in the state. Brentwood Middle School and Brentwood High School have earned the highest GreatSchool ratings. Williamson Medical Center supports the community. Brentwood is also close to Nashville’s hospitals, including Baptist Hospital, West Side Hospital, and Southern Hills Medical Center. Nashville Metropolitan Authority (MTA) and Regional Transit Authority (RTA) provide public transportation. Nashville International Airport is a short drive away and Brentwood is located along Interstate 65.
